Manuscript Editing
Unfortunately, many of the people offering editing services these days don't even know what editing is. They're willing to give you the "low, low, low" price of . . . say $1.50 a page . . . to edit your manuscript. What a bargain!
The only thing is most of these people are proof-readers, not editors.
What do proof-readers do? Well, they make sure you don't have spelling and grammatical errors in your manuscript. And this IS important! However . . .
. . . An editor looks for story structure, believable characters, realistic dialogue, showing versus telling, continuity, correct point-of-view . . . and will catch obvious spelling and grammatical errors.
Don't think you need an editor? Even the best writers on earth need editing. If F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ralph Ellison relied on editors, don't you think you might also consider using one?
COST: $4.00 TO $8.00 PER PAGE. (THIS WORKS OUT TO ABOUT 1 1/2 CENTS TO THREE CENTS PER WORD.)
As you see , I have a sliding scale when it comes to editing. In order to know what the exact cost will be, send me a 5-page sample of your manuscript. I'll edit it -- for free -- and send it back to you with the per-page cost for editing your manuscript.
