Showing Vs. Telling
One of the major problems new writers have is remembering how important it is to "show" their readers what is happening in a story rather than just "telling." For instance, many new writers will state in their manuscript:
"Jim was angry, and struggled not to hit her."
While a more seasoned writer might state:
"Jim's eyes narrowed and his nostrils flared as he approached her with clenched fists; but he suddenly stopped, took a deep breath and unfurled his hands, then turned away."
Which of the above made you feel as if you're actually there witnessing the scene?
That's the importance of showing versus telling.
This 2 ½-hour workshop -- which is filled with fun exercises -- will help you realize when you subconsciously slip into telling mode, and give you tips on how to get back into showing mode.
